Astronomers believe they've detected an atmosphere around a tiny, icy world beyond Pluto
Marcia Dunn, Associated Press Marcia Dunn, Associated Press CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A new study suggests that a tiny, icy world beyond Pluto harbors a thin, delicate atmosphere that may have been created by volcanic eruptions or a comet strike. Just 300 miles (500 kilometers) or so across, this mini Pluto is.

Thin atmosphere detected around distant object beyond Pluto
Astronomers have detected a thin atmosphere around a tiny celestial body in the outer solar system for the first time — an object previously thought to be too small to support the presence of an atmosphere. Thousands of frozen, rocky bodies called trans-Neptunian objects, or TNOs, exist in the Kuiper Belt on the edge.
